What has been your experience working with APHF?
My time at APHF has been both rewarding and transformative. From my reporting date, I was welcome
d into a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth. My supervisor has been instrumental, not only in training me on day-to-day operational activities but also in sharing valuable life lessons, a rare and invaluable aspect of mentorship. APHF truly values its employees, offering workplace flexibility and fostering a strong sense of community. Did I mention we have a self-care day every quarter which is different from the normal Leave days?
What skills and knowledge have you gained?
During my internship, I gained valuable skills and knowledge through proper guidance from my supervisor, including proficiency in the ERP System which was an ongoing project when I joined, Microsoft 365 Business Central and other Microsoft Office Suite applications, enhancing my ability to manage financial and operational data efficiently. I have also improved my procurement skills as well as administrative and logistics knowledge, particularly in handling operational tasks and coordinating team activities.
I have gained a deeper understanding of non-profit operations and public health initiatives in Africa as well as gaining knowledge of grant management in the donor world.
Would you recommend APHF to other interns? Why?
Yes, I would highly recommend APHF to other interns. The organization provides a well-structured internship program that offers practical experience, professional mentorship, and an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work. APHF also fosters a supportive learning environment where interns can develop their skills and are able to actively participate in meetings including chairing.
What has been your highlight so far?
Serving as an intermediary between the software support team who were working on the ERP system and the APHF team. This being my first project coordination role, it provided me with valuable insights into stakeholder management, problem-solving, and ensuring seamless collaboration for successful proj

ect outcomes.
What challenges have you experienced, and what did you do to overcome it?
It was challenging at first to voice opinions in meetings with professionals from diverse backgrounds. However, over time, I gained confidence and improved my communication skills, becoming more assertive and engaged. I have had the opportunity to chair some meet
ings, an experience that has strengthened my leadership and public speaking abilities. I am truly grateful to APHF for fostering an inclusive environment and giving interns the platform to actively participate in meetings. This has been instrumental in my professional growth, and I appreciate the organization’s commitment to empowering young professionals.
